Charlotte Bobcats vs Orlando Magic Game 1 Preview

Pump Up Music:

Poor Boys-You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet (From D2 The Mighty Ducks)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfvxvDqnE4Y&feature=related

Big Picture:

Fans are not going to be won over by just having a great regular season. The Bobcats need to build off their best season ever by going down to Orlando and stealing game 1 and gaining a sense of home court advantage for the series. Orlando had another great season and is shooting threes like they are on clearance.

Keys to victory:

1.Stop Dwight as much as possible. If he gets an open look the Bobcats need to foul him and make him earn his two points.

2.Close out on the Three Point Shooters. Don’t give them open looks. If the ‘Cats double Dwight they have to be sure they have help on the arsenal of three point shooters the Magic have.

Detail:

J.J. Redick’s middle name is “Clay,” the origin of which is that his dad is a successful potter. (He also will be the most hated player in this series)

Prediction:

Bobcats in 6. Cats win an early game in Orlando and hold home court for the rest of the series.

NBA Playoffs Round 1

NBA PLAYOFFS:  Round 1 Preview

Eastern Conference

(1) Cleveland Cavaliers vs (8) Chicago Bulls

Chicago tried to play their way out of the playoffs when Noah got hurt and they lost 10 games straight at one point, but they were able to win their last game of the season to beat out the Toronto Raptors for the eighth spot.  Cleveland has been resting their players this last week and hope to come out strong in what should be an easy series seeing as they have likely MVP Lebron James.

X-Factors: Delonte West and Derrick Rose

Pick: Cavaliers in 5

(2) Orlando Magic vs (7) Charlotte Bobcats

Finally the Charlotte Bobcats have made the playoffs and will be matched up likely Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard.  Gerald Wallace and company look to take revenge on Orlando who won the season series 3 games to 1 by using the number one defense in the NBA against a three point shooting Orlando.  This looks to be a low scoring but still very exciting series.

X-Factors: Vince Carter and Bobcats’ Big Men

Pick: Bobcats in 6

(3) Atlanta Hawks vs (6) Milwaukee Bucks

A young, fast Hawks team is matched up with an “Aussie-less” Bucks team.  The Bucks are equipped with rookie Brandon Jennings and the offensive force of John Salmons.  The Hawks will fight that with defensive players Josh Smith and Al Horford and likely Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford.

X-Factors: Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings

Pick: Hawks in 5

(4) Boston Celtics vs (5) Miami Heat

This series looks to be very close and will be fought down to the wire every night.  The Celtics are old and always hurt but still when the playoffs come along they put their age aside and look like they are in their 20s again.  The Heat have D-Wade, for at least the rest of this year, and he will try and win this series on his own but I do not believe he will be enough to pull through in the end.

X-Factors: Paul Pierce and Michael Beasley

Pick:  Celtics in 7

NBA Playoffs Round 1

NBA PLAYOFFS:  Round 1 Preview

Western Conference

(1) Los Angeles Lakers vs (8) Oklahoma City Thunder

The Lakers won the regular season series 3 games to 1 and look to regain their early season form against the Thunder.  The Lakers have one of the best players in the league in Kobe who will face off against the NBA Scoring Champ Kevin Durant.  Kevin Durant will have to score 40 a game to give the Thunder a chance in this series which is easily possible but I don’t think it will matter.  The Lakers have a clear cut advantage in the post and defense with Ron Artest.

X-Factors: Pau Gasol and Russel Westbrook

Pick: Lakers in 5

(2) Dallas Mavericks vs (7) San Antonio Spurs

This series is a match-up between two of the most fundamentally sound teams in the NBA.  The Spurs are old and always seem to have injuries while Dallas has one of the best point guards in the league in Jason Kidd. The Spurs are the better coached of the two but Dallas has the advantage in depth after a trade that brought in Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood.  For the Spurs to have a chance Manu Ginobli will have to play like a superstar.

X-Factors: Manu Ginobli and Jason Terry

Pick: Mavericks in 7

(3) Phoenix Suns vs (6) Portland Trail Blazers

In this series you have the high scoring Phoenix Suns vs the injury plagued Portland Trail Blazers.  Brandon Roy has a torn meniscus and will miss this surgery which is a big blow to the Trail Blazers.  I believe Phoenix will be too fast and too strong inside for Portland.  The point guard combo of Andre Miller and Jerryd Bayless will be no match for the elite passing duo of Steve Nash and “The Dragon” Goran Dragic.

X-Factors: Jason Richardson and Marcus Camby

Pick: Suns in 5

(4) Denver Nuggets vs (5) Utah Jazz

This will be my series to watch in the West.  Carmelo and the Nuggets vs Deron Williams and the Jazz is a match-up of two great teams that easily could have been seeded higher but due to some injuries are stuck facing off against each other.  This series will come down to defense, both teams can score at will but the winner will be the one who makes the big stops in the 4th quarter.

X-Factors: Kenyon Martin and Carlos Boozer

Pick:  Nuggets in 7

WeBringGuns2DArenas vs Tunesquad

Our CoRec Intramural Team plays our second game of the season Tonight at 7:30.

Our team WeBringGuns2DArenas (in honor of Gilbert Arenas) look to start the season off 2-0 as we face the (0-1) Tunesquad.  Last week we defeated the Navi Avatar Friends in a low scoring affair 28-18 despite the refs making several bad calls against our team.  Tonight we will face a tough matchup with 3 of our girls being gone to compete in the ACC championships which leaves us with only 2. In CoRec we must have atleast 2 girls on the court at all times which means Grace Ridge and Laura Crigler will have to come up big for us for all 30 minutes. Our Guys for the night will start with Me (Adam Walter, Director of Player Management), (Captain) Malcolm Johnson, and JP Overton.  Off the bench we will have our (Player/Coach) Reggie McIntyre Jr., and our 3pt specialist Josh Moore.

Keys to Victory

1. Rebounding: We started off slow last week in rebounding giving up several second chances, luckily they missed on those chances but we can not hope for that this week.

2. Start off fast: With a small lineup starting tonight’s game we will look to run and gun right out of the gate and try and get a quick lead and keep the pressure on the Tunesquad.

3. Defense: With only allowing 18pts in the first game we look to continue our defensive dominance by staying tight on the ball and box-out for every rebound opportunity.  We will look to get quick turnovers and cause the Tunesquad to shoot poor shots early in their possesion.

Predictions:

Grace Ridge comes up big in her 30 mins with 10 pts and several key defensive plays.

Malcolm Johnson pounding the ball inside to get easy layups and put the Tunesquad in foul trouble early. Ending the game with around 15 or more pts.

Adam Walter comes up big with an all around game of having 10 reb, 5ast, 3stl.

Laura Crigler fights for several big loose balls and scores her first bucket of the season!

Josh Moore come off the bench and nail 3 big three-pointers and end the game with double digit points.

JP Overton looks to get a lot of minutes tonight and will come up big in the offensive rebounding category with several second chance points for our team

Reggie McIntyre Jr. will show off his coaching expertise and implement the perfect strategy for a victory. Hopefully resulting in no technical or intentional fouls.

Overall Game Prediction

WeBringGuns2DArenas 42- Tunesquad 20

New offer to buy Bobcats

Article below my comments

If this sale goes through without Jordan matching it could result in bad things for the Bobcats. “One source close to the situation told ESPN.com that Postolos does not plan to retain Jordan or his staff if he is successful with his bid.” This could result in the firing or resigning of Larry Brown, and cause a stir among players who have grown close relationships to the Bobcats staff. Come on Michael step up and match this offer! We don’t want this to end up like the Hornets!

Sources: New offer for Bobcats

It’s no secret that Charlotte Bobcats owner Robert Johnson has been trying to sell his franchise, and multiple league sources have told ESPN.com that he should get his wish by March.

Former Houston Rockets president/CEO George Postolos — whose first attempt to purchase the team, according to the Charlotte Observer, fell apart last summer — has made a new offer that Bobcats president Michael Jordan has until the end of February to match, according to sources.

League officials in New York, when asked about the state of the Bobcats’ sale, declined comment.

Jordan negotiated a right of first refusal after Johnson made it clear he intended to sell the team, according to a team source. But it was not immediately known whether the group of investors Jordan has assembled has the wherewithal or inclination to match Postolos’ offer.

One source close to the situation told ESPN.com that Postolos does not plan to retain Jordan or his staff if he is successful with his bid.

The newly inducted Basketball Hall of Famer has served as a part-owner and head of basketball operations with the Bobcats since June 15, 2006. And despite receiving regular criticism for his low public profile in Charlotte and around the team, Jordan is enjoying his best period as an NBA executive after a slow start with the Bobcats and an earlier disappointing stint with the Washington Wizards.

Jordan’s hiring of Larry Brown as coach before last season and the November gamble to trade for the enigmatic Stephen Jackson have sparked Charlotte to a 24-23 record through Tuesday’s games. That’s good for sixth place in the Eastern Conference, putting the Bobcats on course to reach the playoffs for the first time in the club’s six-season existence.

The Bobcats and the NFL’s Houston Texans are the only two franchises in North America’s four major team sports that have yet to reach the playoffs in their respective sports.

Charlotte Bobcats at Los Angeles Lakers Gameday Preview

Big Picture

This will be one of the most exciting games of the year for all Charlotte Bobcats fans. To end their six game road trip the Bobcats head over to L.A. and visit the Staples Center to faceoff against possibly the best team in the NBA the Los Angeles Lakers.  Both teams are coming off a loss Monday.  Lakers losing by 2 to Memphis while the ‘Cats losing by 19 to Portland.  The Lakers will be at home for the first time in 8 games and look to continue their 7 game win streak at home.  This looks to be an all out war type game as the Bobcats have won the last 3 against the Lakers in the Staples Center and 6 of the last 7 overall.  The last game was a double overtime thriller ending in a 117-110 win for the Bobcats. The Bobcats are ending their road trip and will get a chance to go 4-2 during it with a win against the Lakers.

Keys to Victory

1. Kobe Stopper? It looks as if Stephen Jackson will get the job defending Kobe for most of the night and the Bobcats will need him to be at the top of his game to “stop” Kobe. Granted there is no true stopping Kobe, he is going to get his points but we need to find a way where he has to take more shots to get those points and not allow Kobe to get his teammates involved.

2. Come out firing: It seems as if the Bobcats have been digging holes early in all of their road losses and we need a great start to this one or else the Cats will be down by 20 before they know it.

3. Be ready for a long night: Unlike the Portland game where the Bobcats looked tired and sloppy all night they will have to be prepared to play with the energy of 2 games tonight. 3 of the last six games between these two have gone extra time including a 2OT and a 3OT where the other 3 games have all been really nail biting games at the end

Detail of the Day

In the last game between the Lakers and Bobcats Gerald Wallace suffered a partially collapsed left lung and fractured rib after a flagrant foul by Andrew Bynum

GO BOBCATS!

bigreginhighdefinition:

The 2 Players that i think need to be in the all-star game 1. Kevin Durant of OKC avg. 29.2 pts per game. I think he is the most improved player in the NBA taking is game to a whole new level. 2. Gerald Wallace of Charlotte leading the Bobcats to there best start in history (NOTE: Stephen Jackson is just as good if not a better canidate for the all-star game)
